ESPON Seminar State of the European Territory: Digital Innovation Paving the Way for Territorial Cohesion

The ESPON seminar “State of the European Territory: Digital Innovation Paving the Way for Territorial Cohesion” is organised in cooperation with the Finnish Presidency of the EU Council in the framework of the ESPON 2020 Cooperation Programme, which aims to support policy development for promoting territorial cohesion and harmonious development of the European territory.

The programme will be based on the new publication of ESPON “The State of the European Territory” that will be presented for the first time during the seminar. The publication provides a comprehensive overview of the European Territory and synthesises the key policy messages from our ESPON research, to support programming of the post-2020 period.

The seminar will also focus on Digital Innovation in urban areas – a core theme of the Finnish Presidency. It will investigate new solutions based on digitalization that increase the quality of life and green development, while also accelerating economic growth and promoting Territorial Cohesion.

Through different presentations and interactive workshops, participants will gain insights from the latest ESPON evidence of the topics related to the territorial cohesion debate including financial instruments, green infrastructure, circular economy, refugee flows, youth unemployment, geographical specificities, cultural heritage, territorial impact assessment, land-sea interactions, big data and urban-rural linkages.

The seminar is aimed at policymakers, stakeholders, practitioners, scientists and experts who are interested in understanding the development challenges and potential of their territory in a wider context and implementing policies ‘on the ground’ and how ESPON evidence can support these processes.

The programme and the registration for this event will be very soon available.
